Chenin Blanc is The Official Wine of Summer — Here's Where To Order It!
While rosé and Prosecco may have reigned in year's past, now is the time to expand your palette by ordering a bottle of Chenin Blanc to your downtown LA apartment.
The Chenin Blanc Grape
Chenin Blanc is a white wine grape that produces a range of styles that are great for sipping alone as an apéritif or paired with food. Tasting notes vary greatly depending on the region, vineyard, and winemaker. The wine can be described as medium to full-bodied, dry or off-dry, crisp, and with citrus and tropical notes. Wine expert Jancis Robinson calls Chenin Blanc a classic, and praises it as a "chameleon of a white grape." It is sometimes known by different names, like Steen in South Africa, or by region, such as Vouvray in France.
Chenin Blanc Wine Styles
Originally from the Loire region of France, there are also vineyards in South Africa, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, and Spain. It can be still, sparkling, oak-aged, or blended with other grapes like chardonnay. Susceptibility to botrytis, or "noble rot," sometimes leads to a sweeter, fuller-bodied wine.
Chenin Blanc Pairings
Chenin Blancs' crisp acidity, range of styles, and varying degrees of sweetness create interesting food pairings. Try it with chicken, fish, pizza, or whip up something from your pantry.
